My clients sometimes complain that natural insomnia remedies aren't working for them. Those same people say that they would like to stop using sleeping pills. "The natural sleep remedies that I've used have not worked," they say. The fact is that if you are relying on a product to put you to sleep, this will never happen, because only you can allow yourself to sleep. You may have noticed how taking a chemical sleeping pill can cause you to sleep just minutes later? But the truth is that you fell asleep because you were relaxed enough to do so. Most people just want to sleep well at night. Sleep is a crucial component in remaining healthy and not getting enough sleep has serious consequences. The sleeping pill industry capitalizes on this fear to make money - Millions of people take sleeping pills every night! However the cost of these pills are not really our main concern. The real issue is what these pills are doing to our natural sleep system. Everyone needs help sleeping sometimes, like during extreme stress or recovery from illness. This occasional use will not usually cause ill effects. If you take them for a few days it probably won't hurt you. The problem occurs when this use becomes a continuous every night occurrence. A chemical insomnia remedy will build resistance after a while and simply will not work as well as it used to. A chemical insomnia remedy will build resistance after a while and simply will not work as well as it used to. At about that time, people will notice this and try to stop taking the pills. Unfortunately it isn't easy. Natural insomnia remedies are usually their next option, and unfortunately, they are met with similar ineffectiveness. The reason why these remedies don't work is two-fold. Firstly, the body will have to go through a period of withdrawal. This situation is known as rebound insomnia and it's simply your sleep system trying to return to normal. Until then, some sleep interruption is normal. Secondly, natural insomnia remedies do not work right away. These natural remedies don't medicate you into an artificial sleep. It can take natural remedies time to build up in your system before they will work for you. There is a re-learning process of your sleep system taking place that will allow for falling asleep naturally. So be patient. Expecting sleep a few minutes after taking a natural insomnia remedy is an unreasonable expectation. But just give them some time and soon you will be enjoying the benefits of restful sleep without the side effects like withdrawal and daytime drowsiness.
